Private Homes in the US, 1960-1970

Throughout the 1960s, the average home had 5 rooms (including one bathroom and 1 or 2 bedrooms). In 1960, it housed average of 3.1 residents. By 1970, the average home had increased to 1500 square feet as opposed to 800 square feet in 1950.

In 1960, 78.5% of homes had a telephone; by 1970, 90.5% did.

Air conditioning grew 300%.
Dryers: 1960=19.6%; 1970=44.6%
Dishwashers =7.1 %; 1970=26.1%
Ranges and vacuum cleaners up 18%.
