SUBJECT: Citation of Unit.
THROUGH: Commanding Officer. 26th Infantry
TO : Commanding Officer, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry.
The 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry, is cited far outstanding performance of duty
in action in the vicinity of Djebel Labirech and Djebel Bou Rhous, Tunisia,
26, January, 1943.
"Ordered to attack and seize heavily fortified enemy positions approximately
six miles from their bivouac, the 1st Battalion, in a heavy downpour of rain
and over exceptionally muddy roads, moved forward on foot to the assembly area.
Early in the morning, under cover of darkness, the 1st Battalion assaulted enemy
positions with fixed bayonets and succeeded in clearing this sector of enemy
troops, capturing quantities of enemy equipment and personnel, and inflicting
extremely heavy casualties upon the enemy forces."
