"Company "G", 26th Infantry, is cited for outstanding performance of duty in
action. Company "G" formed the advance elements of the battalion attack on a decisive
terrain feature approximately two miles in advance of the main line of resistance.
The plans of this company were so efficient and complete that it was able to occupy
its objective at a distance of approximately one thousand yards from the enemy with
out being detected. Company "G" was organized and prepared for defense by daylight.
Although it position was attacked by a force three times its size, in addition to
attacks by aircraft and artillery fire, Company "G" maintained its position against
extremely heavy odds for approximately four hours and forced the enemy to withdraw.
In an effort to escape eventual capture or destruction is this defensive position,

skillfully that the enemy was checked and forced to withdraw before the main line
