Original Georgia Salzburger Settlers

Picton Press claims copyright ownership of the list that was here and asked me to remove it from this site. I did so.

I obtained the list from a then-president of the Society, Dr. Frank Perry, who, compiled it. I believe that he worked with George Fenwick Jones, who had done the research. They wanted me publish it. I created the first Web site for the Georgia Salzburger Society (of which I am a Life Member) on the Historical Text Archive and the list was part of that site.

Facts cannot be copyrighted. Lists are facts. The manner of presentation, however, can be copyrighted. So, it is possible that Dr. Perry copied the list from one of more books in such a way that his work was a violation of copyright. Certainly, the owner of Picton Press thinks so.

Those interested in the subject can consult:
PalProject , which provides some details, and George Fenwick Jones, ed. Detailed Reports on the Salzburger Emigrants Who Settled in America, Vol. X, (Athens, GA: The University of Georgia Press, 1988), and Pearl Rahn Gnann and Mrs. Charles LeBey, Georgia Salzburgers and Allied Families. (Greenville, SC: Southern Historical Press, 1984).
