Watercolor Scenes of Jamaica and Panama in 1913


Willis J. Abbot, Panama and the Canal in Picture and Prose . New York, Syndicate Publishing Company, 1913 identifies these water colors as being done by by E. J. Read and Gordon Grant. The artist signed each of his paintings. Their styles, however, were very similar so one has took look closely to determine the artist.

For the historian, these paintings provide a soft, warm view of what were, essentially, pre-industrial societies.
